Paternity Leave

I've been thinking back to the first few days of wee Lucy's life (isn't "wee" just so charming?) and I can't imagine what I would have missed had I not been able to take paid leave from work. As tough as it is now to part from her and spend much of the day at work, it's been a lot easier knowing I am going to an office that encourages time with family.

Speaking of work, check out the picture attached to my Bio. How does anyone take me seriously?

What they do best

Hi Asher

J's best friend Taryn has a little one as well. Asher Durbin was born three weeks before Lucy. He sent Lucy a Valentine's Day ecard. Lucy replies in kind:

"Flirting Like Mommy"

Three Weeks Old

Lucy is three weeks old. Her cheeks are rounding into a shape that is best described as "schmittyesque." Observe:

Reever!

J's dad and stepmom came to Seattle this past weekend. They cooked, they draped, and they played with Lucy. Good times.

Our Favorite Picture

Grandma!

Grandma (aka Mrs. H, Mrs. V, one half of Double Trouble) stayed with us for the week. She excelled in soothing little Lucy, grocery shopping, and loving her grandbaby. Here are some photos. Apologies to her class, which expected the photos last week. We were tired.

End of the First Week

As we approach midnight, we approach the end of the first week with little Lucy. A few highlights:

Hiccups. She doesn't hiccup much, but when she does, she does so with great awareness. For example:

Lucy: (already hiccuping for 30 sec)
Papa: Hiccup if you love Papa!
Lucy: (hiccup!)
Papa: Hiccup if you want to watch the Super Bowl
Lucy: (hiccup!)
Papa: Hiccup if Papa can eat a pizza
Lucy: ........
........
........
Jess: Ouch!

With Mommy. She loves her mommy. She smiles, her eyes widen, her arms flail, and her mouth opens whenever mommy is near. With Papa, not so much. See below.

The Little Diva

Our little Lucy has jaundice. The treatment is to expose her to light until the bilirubin in her blood breaks down and leaves her body via an increasingly awesome excretory system. She lies in a little snuggly tanning bed pretty much all day for the next two days, except for when she is feeding and playing. It's hard on us because we can't spend the day with her in our arms, but she is getting better and is very secure in her bed. Our little one now has a daily tanning ritual to go with the blond highlights. And you should hear her sing.
